Discover the Life and Journey of Georgette Zaatar

Georgette Zaatar is a Lebanese visual artist from Zahle, holding a degree in Fine Arts since 1997. Known for her distinctive artistic style that blends authenticity with modern expression, she captures the soul of Zahle and Lebanon through her paintings and creative works.

Her artistic journey began with a solo exhibition at the French Cultural Center in Zahle in 1999, the same year she designed the official logo of the Municipality of Zahle – Maalaka. Between 2002 and 2006, she took part in numerous group exhibitions across Lebanon — in Beirut, Tripoli, Jezzine, and other regions — alongside her notable solo show “Our Living Past” in 2005 at Hotel Kadri Grand.

In 2007, her work reached an international audience through two exhibitions in France, held in Obernai (Alsace region) and Fontainebleau, in collaboration with artist Nabil Hobeika. Continuing her artistic education, she studied classical drawing techniques (D’après les grands peintres) in 2012 with painter Michelle Bouché in Fontainebleau, France.

Georgette Zaatar taught for one year in 2012 at the Antonine University – Haouch Hala, and from 2017 to 2024 at Saint Joseph University (USJ) in the Taanayel and Zahle campuses. From 2005 to 2018, she also organized annual exhibitions for her private art studio students as part of Zahle’s cultural festivals, nurturing the next generation of local artists.

Her contributions extend to literary illustration as well, including artwork for the poetry collection “Alilat Al-Ward” by poet Moussa Diab Al-Maalouf (2001), and for the book “It Took Me Some Time to Understand” by Judge and MP Georges Okais (2017).

Since 2016, Georgette Zaatar has been an elected member of the Zahle – Maalaka and Taanayel Municipal Council, serving until 2025. She was also elected for two years as President of the Association of Zahle Artists – Artisan.
